MY EXPERIENCE IN ELECTRONIC LITERACY

My experience in Electronic literacy

Why is electronic literacy important?

Retrieved September 14, 2010, from http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litercy): Electronic literacy is the ability to use electronic tools or internet such as web browser, word processing programs and text messages, etc. Electronic literacy is called too as multimedia literacy, computer literacy or technacy. Nowadays it is very important to know about this kind of literacy, because if you do not know how use electronic tools you are consider illiterate. In schools, the use of electronic tools is very important, because educations and technology are together. My experience in Electronic literacy had been developing thanks to the school.

I started using electronic tools since I was in elementary school. All this began when my teachers asked me investigations in Internet, of this way I began using web browsers. Also, when I wrote summaries, descriptions, etc. I was using word processing texts. I continued working with electronic tools in junior high school and in the high school, where I studied computing. I began to be familiarized more with computers and the technology; the majority of my works were in computer. These years and works were my introduction in electronic literacy.

Electronic literacy is important in my life because, the things that I learnt before had been helpful for my understanding a lot of topics and activities nowadays. Now, I can search important information about the bachelor that I am studying. The knowledge that I have about how use the computer is very important because I can work and study with modern activities. In the bachelor that I am studying thanks to technology I can work and meet people from other countries who teach me how to write and speak in English across websites like: messenger, facebook, metroflog, hotmail, hi5, etc.

Moreover, Electronic literacy can help me in the future too. This mean, for giving a better work in the future one of the most important requisites is to know the use of computers and electronic tools. If we learn about electronic tools nowadays it will be better for us to understand the technology in the future. Furthermore, as a future English teacher I will need new ways and materials for teaching to my students through technology. Also in different works electronic literacy will be very important too, because it allows having communication around the world, for example in different business is important to have contact or communication with people of different countries.

To sum up, in order to avoid being an illiterate nowadays and in the future, we need to know more about electronic tools, the use of the computer and Internet. This kind of literacy allows us to represent a competence in the society, to have communication with everybody around the world, to know new people, to learn more in an easily and funny way, to be informed about what is happen in the world, etc. In addition, when we are studying a new language, we can improve our skills working through different spaces in the Internet like blogs, browsers, etc.
